Dolce and Gabbana Headed to Jail?
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, News,
Looks like fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will soon be trading in their designer duds for some blasé prison jumpsuits.
Prosectors in the Italian creatives' tax evasion case are seeking to have them thrown in jail for not having paid €400 million in taxes, seeking to get them five years in prison between the two of them (I guess tax attorneys are less harsh when it comes to sentencing female singers).
The tax evasion case has been a long time coming, as the pair's accounting habits became suspect with their 2004 sale of their D&G and Dolce & Gabbana brands to holding company Gado, which is based in Luxembourg. Tied to the alleged tax crime was their board member Cristiana Ruella and accountant Luciano Patelli, both of whom have been previously prosecuted (Patelli was sentenced to three years in jail).
While it's disheartening to think that one of fashion's most beloved fashion duos are facing length prison time, one must wonder who will take over the reigns and emerge as the next talent in the industry?

Dolce and Gabbana Support Galliano’s Comeback
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers,
After having been found guilty and charged of racist and anti-Semitic behavior, John Galliano is returning to the fashion world, and some fellow designers are offering him their support.
Shortly after Oscar de la Renta welcomed the former Dior designer into his studio, Dolce and Gabbana designers Domenico and Stefano have voiced their optimism for his comeback:
"We wish John the best of luck with his return to fashion. We’ve always been admirers of his flamboyant talent. He has been missed from the fashion scene these two years and we can’t wait to see the collection with Oscar de la Renta."
Though neither de la Renta nor Galliano have mentioned anything about a collaborative collection, it seems like the D&G pair may have spilled the beans on what would otherwise been a surprise!

Dolce & Gabbana to Launch Children’s Collection
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,
Dolce & Gabbana will launch its first ever childrenswear collection next month.
The Italian design duo - made up of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - say the line, which is aimed at newborns to 10-year-olds, will be just as stylish as their mainline as it has great importance to them.
"I didn't know much about this world, but Domenico's brother has three children aged two to six. The line is conceived as a further expansion of the Dolce & Gabbana world, in terms of product, design content, craftsmanship, function and positioning. This is an homage to Italy and to our tradition. It's part of our culture and marks one of the most important moments in our lives," Stefano said.
The collection will include daywear, innerwear, beachwear, accessories and footwear and the designers say they sought advice from mother as they know it needed to be practical as well as stylish.
"We interviewed all the mothers because the collection must be practica. We learned a lot, plenty of details. For example, it's better to have sleeveless onesies and freedom of movement - kids don't want to feel too constricted," Domenico said.

Dolce & Gabbana are launching their first luxury men's watch collection.
The accessories line will comprise 52 models and be available in select boutiques from June 18. The collection will be stocked in 30 stores before the end of 2012.
"A man cannot not have a watch, it's part of a man's style, it's one of the few accessories that he can wear, and it was a category that was missing for us," designer Stefano Gabbana told WWD. "It's interesting to offer products that one must look for, special things that are difficult to find," he added, speaking about the selection process.
The Swiss-made collection is split into three product lines: the classic DG7, with a mesh Milano chain bracelet; the sporty DS5, with chronometers and chronographs tested by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, and the glitzy DG7 Gems, embellished with diamonds, rubies, sapphires or emeralds.

Dolce and Gabbana See Themselves as Family
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers,
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana see themselves as a family. The legendary design pair were previously lovers, but although their romantic relationship ended in 2005, they continue to work with each other and say they now perceive each other in a different way.
"We are in love in a different kind of way. He is my family. To see two men who aren't in love any more but who continue to make things - that's beautiful," Stefano said.
He also explained that the designers both count familial love as a muse: "Family is a universal sense. The family is a good point to feel love."
Domenico also revealed the pair like to set the mood for designing sessions by selecting the right music, before they even sit down and start drawing: "It's like a movie. [For each season each] we're like 'Which movie should we go to?'"

Dolce & Gabbana to Fold D&G
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, News,
Dolce & Gabbana is folding its D&G line. The Italian fashion house - made of designer duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - have decided to end the brand to concentrate on their signature Dolce & Gabbana line.
In a statement, they said the move would give "even more strength and energy to our collections." It means yesterday's D&G show at Milan Fashion Week was the last for the range, and the company will be incorporating the D&G line into its signature line.
D&G is a slightly more casual line and is the younger, more flamboyant line of the brand. Unlike Dolce & Gabbana, D&G sells watches as well as clothing. While they are getting rid of the D&G line, Domenico and Stefano recently revealed they are embracing technology and selling their collections on the internet as they want to give everyone the chance to buy their designs.
"It's a retail channel we are very interested in, because it gives everybody the chance to experiment with the Dolce & Gabbana world. You don't have to live in a big city - you just have to own a computer," Domenico said. "Luxury is not a static concept, but it shapes and changes with society. Now somebody who might not have the time to come to one of our boutiques can shop online," Stefano added.
Dolce & Gabbana Design Soccer Suits
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,
As if athletes don’t receive enough perks: Dolce & Gabbana have designed a range of suits for English soccer team Chelsea FC.
The Italian designers have signed a three-year deal with the club, meaning players such as John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole will be dressed in exclusive three-piece suits created by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The blue suits are teamed with dark blue shirts, and a matching tie, while casual clothes including blue denim jeans have also been gifted.
In addition to the players receiving suits, managers, coaches and other male staff at the club will also get formal outfits. “Dolce & Gabbana are top class designers, everybody knows them world-wide and it’s beneficial for the club that we have a brand on the same level as we are,” said soccer player Daniel Sturridge.
Women working for the club will receive a pair of black high heels and a matching-coloured trench coat. Domenico and Stefano - who dress the likes of David Beckham, Kylie Minogue and Madonna - will also redesign Chelsea’s director’s lounge and the club’s main reception area. Players will also receive a trolley case designed by the duo.
Dolce and Gabbana Say Working on Nine Was a Dream
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Rumors,
Dolce and Gabbana admit starring in Nine was a “dream come true.”
Prestigious fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - who make a brief appearance in the romantic musical movie - were desperate to work on the project inspired by Italian firm director Federico Fellini because he is a movie “maestro.”
“We wanted so much to be part of this project! Federico Fellini has always been one of our greatest sources of inspiration, one of the most important Italian directors. For us, being part of a movie inspired by the work of the maestro is like a dream come true.”
Despite only appearing on-screen for a short while, the designing duo were thrilled to work on the celebrity-filled film, which stars Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Fergie, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren and Daniel Day-Lewis.
They added to People, “Rob Marshall did an amazing work and the cast is amazing! He was able to put together the most beautiful and talented actresses of various generations and great actors. We couldn’t be more happy to be chosen, even if for a short appearance.”
Milan Awards Dolce and Gabbana
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,
Dolce and Gabbana are set to receive an award for their contribution to Milan.
The design duo - full names Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - say they are “honored” after learning they will be given the Ambrogino D’oro, an annual award presented to citizens who have contributed meaningfully to the city.
“We are extremely honored and excited to receive this award. Milan is not only our city and where our home is, but also the place that allowed us to make our dream come true. Milan has given us a lot and we cannot be but happy that our work contributed to its well-being,” said Stefano.
The award takes its name from Milan’s patron saint, Saint Ambrogio, and is given out on the same day the saint is celebrated.
The duo are not the only designers to be recognized for their contributions to a city. Last week, Alber Elbaz’s was honoured for his cultural impact on Paris as creative director of Lanvin.
Madonna Stars in Dolce & Gabbana Campaign
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Models, News,
The Queen of Pop has seemed to move on from Marc Jacobs and has now moved on to cozying up with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, starring in their upcoming Spring/Summer ‘10 ad campaign.
While the Dolce & Gabbana pair have worked with Madonna in the past for her stage costumes, she has never taken to glossy pages for them until now. It probably helps that her current boy toy, model Jesus Luz, starred in the previous ad campaign for their fall line (he probably wants to remain employed).
“To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true,” the designing duo said.
Shot last week in New York City by celebrated photographer Steven Klein, I’m fairly excited for the photos; however, I’m hoping that we’ll be able to recognize her face this time around (as opposed to her controversial Louis Vuitton ads that were highly edited).
